My Favourite Gluten-Free Vegan Autumn Treats are mostly fruit and pumpkin based. This is because fruit is soooo good in autumn. I love treats!!! I don’t have treats very often, but when produce is so good it is hard not to make the most of the bounty.
Autumn is Great for Produce
Autumn is wonderful for fruits and vegetables. Spring and summer set up bushes, trees, plants and greenery of all descriptions to burst in to life in autumn with seeds of all descriptions. Whether those seeds are in fruits, vegetables, nuts, flowers. Whatever, autumn in the time for seeds to go out on their own and set up a new plant. Autumn is amazing.
What do you Mean by Treat?
Treats can be many things. The treats below are all sweet treats but on a cold winters night a bowl of spicy lentil soup would be a wonderful, warming, comforting treat for me. It depends on your mood. Treats aren’t always sweet but today I am in a sweet mood and autumn really is all about the fruits and the pumpkin!!!
My Favourite Gluten-Free, Vegan Autumn Treats
Autumn fruits are great and amongst my favourite autumn fruits are apples and pears. We’re coming to the end of blackberry season but if you went-a-blackberry-picking you will probably have some in your freezer. It is impossible to pick ‘just a few’ blackberries. Quince is a little harder to get hold of but if you know someone with a quince tree I can highly recommend quince in any crumble, pie or stew.
Apple Crumble Bars
Sweet, crumbly and delicious Apple Crumble Bars are fabulous for packed lunches or treats on long, autumnal walks.
Apple and Blackberry Cobbler
Apple and Blackberry Cobbler is a great way to make full use of the amazing apples and blackberries. If you are over crumble, cobbler is the way to go!
Blackberry and Almond Chocolate Mousse
For a truly decadent autumn treat Blackberry and Almond Chocolate Mousse hits the spot. Sweet, but not too sweet, rich but not sickly, full of blackberrys and almonds. What more do you want?
Gluten Free, Vegan Sweet Squash/ Pumpkin Tart
You can’t talk about autumn without mentioning squash or pumpkin. The natural sweetness of pumpkin and squash lend themselves to dessert. Super popular in the US, sweet pumpkin dishes are becoming even more popular in the UK. I find that pumpkin don’t need much added sweetness and love the flavour of pumpkin, rather than masking it with too much sugar. This Gluten Free, Vegan Sweet Squash/ Pumpkin Tart is the perfect balance of sweet and flavour. Perfect for autumn supper!
Pear Frangipane Tart
Pear Frangipane Tart is one of my favourite puddings. I adore almonds and this Pear Frangipane Tart is just perfect. No more to say!
Bramley Apple and Quince Crumble
It is not possible to talk about autumn treats without talking about apple crumble. But, doesn’t that get a bit boring sometimes? No! But, add a bit of quince and Bramley Apple and Quince Crumble is autumn turned up to 11. Custard finishes off the best autumn treat I know!
