We are all often short of time and off-the-shelf products are a useful and much needed store cupboard essential. So it is really hard to understood why the majority of gluten free products contain egg, milk and other known allergens. Most people with coeliac disease or allergies also cannot tolerate egg or milk. So it is odd that manufacturers would reduce the size of their (already small – but fashionable!) market.
Gluten free bread for example. The most popular brands e.g. Genius, Warburton’s all contain egg. Supermarket own brands also contain egg. There are a few brands Bee Free and Just that are vegan but they are only sporadically in supermarkets near me. Very frustrating.
There are some other great products (biscuits and cakes) out there that are gluten free and vegan but they are not readily available in supermarkets. Supermarket own brands of indulgences and sweet stuff are rarely gluten free and vegan. Why??? Is it money or a lack of understanding of what they are commissioning? It is not that difficult to make products gluten free and vegan and widen the number of people who will buy them. Come on supermarket buyers!!!
Leave the egg alone! Please!!!
