Okay, so it is coming up to Christmas, Hanuka, a special birthday, anniversary, whatever and… You have people coming around, what the heck do you serve (that isn’t ‘cheese’ and pickled onions on cocktail sticks stuck in a foil covered potato)? Well, hopefully I’m going to give you Ten Easy Christmas Party Treats here that will make your life easier (and as it’s all about treats maybe a little better too!).
Treats!!! What Do You Mean, Treats???
Treats can be anything. Absolutey anything. Sweet, savoury, hot, cold… Doesn’t matter. What matters is that they are delicious and they have the aura of being hard to make, hard to buy, look amazing or you only have them once a year. Usually treats are not hard to make. I will show you!!!
Ten Easy Christmas Party Treats
Treats have to be easy and delicious. These recipes all hit the mark. I have gone for a 50/50 split between sweet and savoury. I love all these recipes!
All totally Gluten-Free | Vegan | Allergy-Friendly | Seasonal …and… onion-free, garlic-free and coconut-free.
Chocolate, Hazelnut and Raspberry Torte
I’m starting with something sweet. This Chocolate, Hazelnut and Raspberry Torte is VERY popular. You cannot go wrong with this. I use frozen raspberries outside of raspberry season (no point in paying a lot of money – plus the environmental damage – for tasteless raspberries flown in from half way around the world). You can make mini tortes to serve as individual desserts or canapes.
Gluten Free Vegan Rosemary and Sea Salt Crackers
From sweet to uber-savoury. I adore these Gluten Free Vegan Rosemary and Sea Salt Crackers – and so do my niece and nephew who polished the lot off when I left the room for two minutes! Rosemary and sea salt is a great combination. Perfect with almost any savoury dip.
Black Olive Tapenade
You have crackers… What to dip the crackers in? Why, Black Olive Tapenade of course. I love the sweet, salty, umami taste of this tapenade (and not an anchovy in sight)!
Houmous – Garlic Free
Once you start to talk about dips you can’t not mention Houmous – Garlic Free. This is super easy and tastes way better than any garlic-laden supermarket houmous (humus? houmus?). Great as a dip and magical in sandwiches, on gluten-free pasta, with hot rosted potatoes… Just really, really good.
Potato and Butternut Squash Rosti
We’re moving to canapes now. I adore these Potato and Butternut Squash Rosti made tiny to serve as canapes. You can also make ‘full-size’ versions to serve as part of a sit-down (as opposed to stand-up?!) meal. They also make great use of the Black Olive Tapenade and Houmous recipes above… Yum!
Fondant Butternut Squash
A surprise hit this year, Fondant Butternut Squash is good but I wasn’t prepared for how popular it would be. Again, you can make small canape versions of this or full-size. Rich, unctuous, delicious and very, very easy. No dinner party is complete without Fondant Butternut Squash!
Pear Frangipane Tart
And, back to the sweet stuff with this wonderful Pear Frangipane Tart. Just wonderful served with vegan ice-cream. Simple, tasty, warming, wonderful. No more words needed!
Pears Poached in Spiced Red Wine
You want easy? Pears Poached in Spiced Red Wine are sooo easy. Peel the pears, poach them in red wine with spices and ta da! Very grown up and sophisticated Pears Poached in Spiced Red Wine go with vegan cream, ice-cream, custard – the vegan world is your oyster.
Blackberry and Almond Chocolate Mousse
If you like chocolate you will LOVE Blackberry and Almond Chocolate Mousse. Light, chocolatey, rich, tart and simply heavenly. I use frozen blackberries from a weekend of blackberry picking back in September. Just delish!
Gluten Free, Vegan Sweet Squash/ Pumpkin Tart
Squash and pumpkin are still in season (and store well) so this Gluten Free, Vegan Sweet Squash/ Pumpkin Tart is perfect for Christmas treats. Really, really good when you fancy something a little out or the ordinary.
